Weird Things You Can Hear In Nirvana Songs

ALBUM-"Nevermind"

. Smells Like Teen Spirit-at about 0:04 on the CD it sounds like Kurt breaks a string when you listen to it loud through headphones. 2:52-2:52 Dave doesn't do the crash cymbal hit on the chorus riff this time through

. In Bloom-Dave is singing harmonies on the chorus

. Come As You Are-Kurt's guitar is tuned down about a step & he uses a chorus effect for the watery verse sound. It also sounds like he uses a flanger over the solo.

. Breed-0:00-0:05 Studio effects. Chris uses a distortion pedal on his bass for this song. Butch (Vig, Nevermind producer, panned Chris's bass into the right speaker & Kurt's guitar into the left. The guitar solo rotates from speaker to speaker.

. Lithium-Kurt's guitar is tuned down a step.

. Polly-Occasionally, you can hear Kurt's finger slide along the fret of his guitar, which produces the "scrape" sound heard between chords. Although the rest of the song is drum-less, you can hear someone (Dave??) hit a crash cymbal at the beginning of each chorus.

. Territorial Pissings- Chris sings "come on people now...smile on your brother...everybody get together, try to love one another right now" at the beginning of the song. Kurt or Dave one yell in the background at 0:22. Kurt's voice goes out at about 2:13

. Drain You-If you listen close at the beginning of the song you can hear Dave close his high-hat right before Kurt starts playing. 1:41-1:50-there's some weird noise I can't figure out. 2:28-2:32-Kurt Yells.

. Lounge Act-from 0:00-0:02-Kurt does a pick scrape on his guitar. 1:32-end this is my personal Fav. part of the song. Is it just me or is the band just ROCKING out right here. 2:33-2:36-Kurt does a whammy bar bend and lowers all the strings pitches.

. Stay Away-Kurt says "god is gay" at the end

. On A Plain-0:00-0:06 Kurt & Dave are messing around

. Something in The Way-Kurt's guitar is tuned way down. Kurt is almost whispering the verse vocal.

.Scentless Apprentice-Kurt's Vocal is going through some kind of processor

. Heart-Shaped Box-It sounds like Krist's bass has some chorus on it. There must be 4 tracks min. of guitar on this song. This song was re-mixed by Scott Litt

. Rape Me-0:00-Kurt does a 1-2-3-4 kit on his guitar. He made the first chord (A) sound like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" intentionally. At 1:44-2:00 Kurt's voice is the only thing in the right speaker. Over the bridge i hear a tambourine.

. Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle-at 0:02, 0:03, 0:07, 0:09 in the left speaker there is a guitar accenting one thing. At 0:37-0:42- Kurt leaves his distortion on. At 0:48,1:49,3:31 Dave either does a really fast drum-roll, or hits the mics miking his drums with his sticks. Starting at 2:23-3:00 I swear I hear a tambourine.

. Dumb-On the Chorus there's a really cool string (Cello) part

. Very Ape-from 0:00-0:05 Kurt's guitar speeds up.

. Milk It-At 3:13, as Kurt is singing it sounds like he's trying not to laugh.

. Pennyroyal Tea-At 0:00 Kurt coughs. The drums have a really bad mix on this song...they are mixed really low. This song was also re-mixed by Scott Litt, but that mix isnt on the album.

. Radio Friendly Unit Shifter-from 0:00-0:23 Kurt just goes crazy. at 0:06 Kurt Moans. at 0:10 Kurt Says "What's your Name? Do You Love Me?" Starting at 3:25-end Kurt at every one just goes crazy, and for the most part, I don't even think Krist is playing. at 4:40-4:43 Kurt hits his strings below the nut.

. tourette's-at 0:00 Kurt Says "Moderate (or maybe "Modern") Rock" then starts the song.

. All Apologies-Starting at 3:40-3:45 the singing is out of time. Scott Litt Re-mixed this song.

(Band Plays "Come as You Are") notes: Kurt hits some stray notes then starts the song. It sounds like that at 2:01 Kurt accidentally mutes a string.

KURT: "this song was written by the Vasolines. It's a rendition of an old Christian song I think, but we do it the Vasolines way."

(Band Plays "Jesus Doesn't want me for a Sunbeam") notes: Dave Plays bass on this song & Krist Plays accordion. 0:00-0:02 Dave taps his high-hat and says "1-2-3-4"

KURT: "I Guarantee you I will screw this song up"

DAVE: "What song is it."

KURT: "You know which part"

DAVE: "duh" "What?"

KURT: "Well at least I know which on I'm going to screw up"

DAVE: "Oh yeah ....Like he only screws one up"

KURT: " okay, Well I think I'll try it in a different key. I think I'll try it in the normal key, and if it sounds bad these people are just going to have to wait"

KURT: "yeah, this guy representing the Ledbelly estate wants to sell me Ledbelly's guitar for five hundred thousand dollars. I even asked David Geffen personally if he'd buy it for me....he wouldn't do it."
